Coming soon:

How (and why) to create trees with multiple types of fruits on the same tree.
Yes, it is possible and no it has nothing to do with genetic manipulation. Pure organic farming.

Imagine an orange-mandarin-lemon tree. Your loyal blogger has gone to the fields with his camera... Will be back soon.

Going undercover

It is now several years that I am interested in underground housing.

Now wait, stop, no, na, oh, no - I am not mad. Yes I said under-ground-housing. Maybe it started from the scifi stories of Asimov and continued through the despair of looking at the concrete crimes of humanity that redefine the landscape of us and future generations. But the more I think about it the more it seems sensible and right.

The photos below are kindly taken from the underground house project:

Consider the following:
  • Stable temperature year long.
  • Safe - no more tornado, earthquake or burglary insurance.
  • No more car noise.
  • Saves space - your lawn is your roof and your neighbor may be inches away yet you'll never hear him shout on his wife and kids.
  • Oh, and landscape friendly.

And using airflow and light engineering you will never know it is really underground. You may have more houses under and above your own. Easier than building upwards.

Here are a few links that I follow once every now and then:
Food for thought...

The day Jordan will no longer be

Me again with a new conspiracy. Straight from the oven.

Ingredients:
  1. The Hashemite kingdom of Jordan. A monarchy with a 40% Palestinian population that live on the east bank of the Jordan river and pretty much move the Jordan economy.
  2. The Palestinian state-to-be on the west bank of the Jordan river.

The main question that I ask is what will happen to Jordan when a Palestinian state will be established? Now I am not saying anything against the right of any person Palestinian or not to live and define its own security. The following theory is as I see it just a glimpse to the future.

Prediction:
In a matter of years after the establishment of a Palestinian state Jordan will cease to exist.

Why you may ask? Simple.
When a Palestinian state will arrive the balance of forces within Jordan will be shifted against the Hashemite kingdom. Palestinians will have the support of an armed force on the other side of the Jordan river with proximity to the main cities in Jordan and the economical heart of Jordan. This will be a second round to the black september of 1970. If up until then the Palestinians held the economy while the Hashemite monarchy had the guns from this moment and on the potential for the change will set the events going....
Just a thought.

From organic farming to ecologic farming

Hempf, hi to all.
Well, who wouldn't prefer to consume organic products as much as money allows?
Of course, we are what we eat and thus it is generally preferable not to consume chemical fertilizers and even less the common pesticides.

The following is an idea that I, as an ex-farmer, carry for some time: Looking beyond organic farming.

The problem:
There is a difference between organic and ecologic farming. For example, in the avocado fields where I used to work we used to import special organic fertilizers from overseas. Good for the trees and bad for earth. Why you may ask? Well, from the ecologic perspective the introduction of foreign materials to the local systems can have unpredictable outcomes. From minor changes to the local balance to the introduction of diseases that the local populations are not immuned.

This is just one example. There are many others where this came from. What I'd like to emphasize and bring forward is the idea that organic farming is not enough. Let us bring a new term to the world, ecologic farming. By this I mean farming that takes in consideration not only the needs of man but also the needs of earth. And sometimes puts the latter over the former? Just a thought.

In Australia I used to visit farms where over farming reduced the amount of bush land to the point where local fauna disappeared (I am sure this is not only a problem in Oz, no offense, great country and wonderful people). An ecologic aware farming would have added into the equation small, fence less, corridors of suitable bush. So ecologic farming is not necessarily a direct extension of organic farming.

There is more to it but the general idea is clear. In the same way that we nowadays return from the markets with bags full of organic food we may in the future find ourselves proudly returning with bags full of 'ecologically safe' food.
Now there is a need to push this idea forward. If you agree please help me spread the news...
Till next time.
